trantor

For those who does not have an idea of what is Trantor.
Trantor is a planet (a fictional one) in Asimov’s Foundation Trilogy (science fiction books). And it is like the capital of a Galactic Empire. I believe that is the reason why in the picture the are so many space ships going to Trantor, and leaving the planet.
I have read the trilogy when I was in the first half of my twenties (something between 20-23), and I think, I will re-read those astounding books.

Photosynthesis.
I was reading a book about energy.
If you think deep of all the things you eat, it´s easy to find that the main origin of everything is a plant.
Let´s say you are eating a steak, well the cow ate before grass and some seeds.
Now you are eating chicken, well the chicken ate some seeds also.
Now you are eating fish, well the fish ate other fish or some placton, or some algae.
All the things we eat, are solar energy converted in let´s say (for sake of simplicity) “packets of energy” in form of macromolecules by plants by means of Photosynthesis. Then, we eat this packets of energy from plants, or we eat this packets in form of chicken, fish steak or anything.
I believe Photosynthesis is a corner stone process of life.
I believe in Photosynthesis.
Isaac Asimov, wrote a lot of books, I highly recommend to read this author, He is great at explaining things in simple ways.

Isaac Asimov on homosexuality

Isaac Asimov had thoughts in many areas, and he always was willing to answer most of the questions that arrived to him, by mail, and sometimes he also avoided some questions in a very wisely way.

Here is what Asimov thought about homosexuality, when he was asked.

How does homosexuality fit into the overpopulation issue?

1 December 1962

I see nothing “wrong” with homosexuality and, what´s more, nothing dangerous either. I am not a homosexual myself, but the population explosion is so dangerous that any device that cuts down the birthrate without doing significant harm should be positively encouraged and defined as a “right”. Homosexuality is one of these.

If I knew how to straighten out the world, I would really be a genius — Isaac Asimov

Favorite story of a word origin.

23 November 1982

To the Greeks, “chaos” was primeval matter in total disorder. “Cosmos”, on the other hand, was that same matter in some appearance of order.

The creation of the universe, then, was not the creation of matter. That already existed. It was the creation of order. Anything that imposes disorder on matter originally in order is “chaotic”. On the other hand, anything that imposes order on matter originally in disorder is “cosmetic”.

And now we know what it is that woman does when she uses “cosmetics” to “make up” her face.
